What was the worst job you ever had?
Submitted by salaryman.
I have had a few TERRIBLE jobs ...
- I worked for Gallup Poll and had to make countless phone calls asking for people's time to answer questions. I am not a very persuasive person. Many times I felt like crying when people would rudely answer me. DEFINITELY not a good job for me. I was 17 years old, and needed the extra money to help pay for my senior school trip.
- I worked in the after hours food delivery service at my college. My hours were late at night (8:30pm to 1am), and I made the most unappetizing food ... hots wings and pizza. To this day I cannot even look at hot wings ... ewwwwwwwww!
- I worked in a LIFECARE center as a nurse just out of college, and I was completely taken advantage of ... overworked, and the place was completely understaffed. There were a few patients that no longer had their wits about them. Let's just say that they did some really gross things, and I would have to clean it up (crying).
You're trapped in a (temporarily) out of order elevator - who would you like to be trapped with?
Submitted by tbtissimus.
My answer is probably quite boring ....
I would want to be with my husband. He is the only person who could calm me down, and make me feel safe. He also handles stressful situations WAY BETTER than myself.
Thankfully, I have not been in too many elevators with issues. In college, I believe that some of the dorm elevators were always getting stuck, but the problem was usually resolved quickly. After that I would swear off the elevator in lieu of the stairs.
How did you meet your current, or most recent, significant other?
I met my husband Scott 20 years ago this year (when we were just 16) … hard to believe. We were both lifeguards for a group of 4 pools, although we both worked at different ones. One day he stopped by my pool (I think it was to pick up his paycheck) and he told another lifeguard that he thought I was cute ;) … he wanted to meet me. The rest of the story is a little blurry to me, but I do remember that he sat with me and we talked for a while. Talking is how our relationship evolved, and today it is still one of the things we do best. A good relationship is built on strong communication skills and I believe we are blessed to have that.
Did I think I would marry the cute Jewish boy from Twin Rivers? NO, not at all. Does anyone really think of marriage at the age of 16? Gosh, I hope not. We dated for the next 8 years, and then we got engaged. A bit of our life story did not happen in the order that I would have preferred, but I guess that is okay. We have many blessings … 5 beautiful daughters, a great big home, but most of all there is a lot of LOVE!
What were your New Year's resolutions for 2006? How did you do?
I am not sure I even remember if I made one. Maybe I did, but I certainly did not write it down on a blog like this ;)
I have never aimed to lose weight, but I guess I have really tried to make exercise an important thing to do. Organization is something that I constantly aspire to get better at. It wouldn't suprise me if that was my resolution last year. If you ask what my upcoming resolution would be, I think it will be the same. With 5 children, many activities, and a big house ... things can seem crazy. I do function best on an organized schedule. For the most part, I do okay with certain aspects of sceduling ... the girls and their activities. Other things like house chores are not done in any organized fashion. Maybe I need FLYLADY again??????
I have used the computer to schedule things, a simple dayplanner, a palm pilot, and I am sure your standard piece of paper. Somehow, things get forgotten, or not done when they should. Maybe this year will be the year that I can learn to schedule my life better ... I'll keep trying!
What song gives you the most holiday cheer?
Submitted by Roxy.
I love a lot of songs ... (in no particular order)
- It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (Andy Williams)
- O Holy Night (I love Josh Groban's version)
- White Christmas (love Bing Crosby)
- The Christmas Song (Nat King Cole)
- Santa Claus is comin' to town (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN)
- Home for the Holidays (Perry Como)
- Emmanuel, God with us (Amy Grant)
I LOVE CHRISTMAS MUSIC!!!!!!

Who's the hardest person to shop for on your holiday list?
That is a toss up ...
My in-laws are really hard. Aside from pictures, I don't think they ever love our gifts. Last year I got my MIL a cookie jar because she was starting a collection on the very top of her kitchen cabinets. I think she actually liked my gift ... that may have been a first.
AND ...
SCOTT (my husband). Poor guy! I love him to death, and he buys me some wonderful, creative, thoughtful gifts, but to buy for him is tough. He is a gadget guru, and most of the time he fulfills his own wishes throughout the year, so I just buy extras for him. This year I have no idea. I am sure he would love a BlackBerry, but man, those things are pricey.
Do you remember your first flight? Where did you go? Why?
Submitted by Laurel.
OH YES ..... it was a rough flight. I was 19 years old and I went from Binghampton, NY to St. Louis (visiting Scott at his college) via many flights. I got a small charter plane at the dinky little airport in Binghamton. I think that plane had 15 seats and it was a bumpy flight. WE (so used to saying that, but it was just "me" flying) then flew into Newark, NJ where I boarded a different plane (with a different airline). I then flew into Chicago where I had to RUN to catch my next plane to St. Louis. Seeing as I never flew before, visiting 4 airports in one day, and having absolutely NO knowledge of what to do in airports ... it was a rough experience. By the time I got to St. Louis, I had an enormous headache, and my IBS was completely aggravated. I believe I spent most of the day in an airport or in the air. It was such a long day.
I believe every flight since then, has been a lot easier ... thank goodness!
What's the last thing you usually do or think about before you fall asleep?
I usually think ... "MAN, I should have gone to bed sooner!" 5:45am comes around around quickly and I am often dragging in the morning. I need to get more than 6 hours of sleep a night.
Last night I went to sleep thinking how cozy I felt. The windows were open and I felt a chill in the air. Snuggling under my down comforter next to Scott (although he is a snoring man) felt nice. I love fall!
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Generally I fare better in the morning ... more motivated, and more energy to do things. My mornings seems to be off to a start a lot earlier than what I would like, but some days I am glad. It drives me nuts when I waste half the day away and don't get things done. I feel like I have really accomplished something when the day starts out early.
BUT, that being said, I also love my nights too. Staying up until 11:30pm is normal . I feel like I need a few hours without children to unwind, share time with my Scott, and just do whatever the heck I want (reading, watching tv, or surfing the web). I typically don't have the energy at night to do something creative anymore. I used to ... sewing, photo stories, etc. Maybe I should make more of an effort. I have not been creative in a long time.
